The Federal Transit Administration gave the green light today for the 3.3 mile Woodward Avenue streetcar project to proceed. The FTA has completed the environmental clearance for the project. A series of five community meetings in April will focus on how best to bring transit to Woodward Avenue from downtown Detroit to Pontiac. It’s part of the Woodward Avenue Transit Alternatives Analysis. The Woodward Avenue Transit AA is reviewing higher-level transit options for the 27-mile Woodward Avenue corridor from the Detroit River to Pontiac.

A federal judge has ordered former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his friend, contractor Bobby Ferguson, to go to jail while the two await sentencing. A federal jury today found Kilpatrick and Ferguson guilty on multiple counts including racketeering and extortion.
