Our Persons of the Week started a networking and fitness movement
By the hundreds they gather on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings.
Shawn Blanchard and Terrence Thompson along with Armond Harris, have combined personal networking and fitness to create a movement in downtown Detroit. They call it Run This Town.
“It’s about people coming together, not just for the purpose of networking, but also for the purpose of living a healthier lifestyle and it’s about creating that support group around that issue, but creating a place where people can accomplish two things at one time,” Thompson told Detroit 2020.
Some power walk along the riverfront. Others run through the streets of downtown detroit. There is circuit training for all at Rivard Plaza. And people of all ages and levels of fitness are taking part.
“Every single session we have about 30 to 70 first-timers, and so much so that we have moved to chicago, we’re also in Chicago, and this Sunday, we’re actually starting in Ann Arbor, were starting “Run This Campus” at the University of Michigan.
“I am running this town because it’s a good way to meet people, networkout and it also helps me with my personal running goals,” Run This Town participant Kaitlyn Simmonds told Detroit 2020.
“We can get together, every person of every age, and every ethnicity, every socio-economic background and we’re all running and we’re all about personal fitness together. There’s nothing like it,” Run This Town participant Lauralyn Taylor told us.
“It’s an exciting place to be because everyday we come here, someone tells us we’ve changed their lives, so it’s about lifestyle solutions, creating that support group around the issue, and allowing people to support one another in that effort,” Thompson said.
For bringing people together and promoting fitness.. We honor Shawn Blanchard and Terrence Thompson as our Detroit 2020 Persons of the Week.
