Looking for an opportunity to spend a few hours making a difference in the community?
We’re excited to announce the third annual Detroit 2020/Habitat For Humanity BuildUp, on Saturday, August 10th.
To sign up, click on the link in the “ACT Now!” section below
It will take place in the Morningside Commons neighborhood on Detroit’s east side.
Again this year, 7 Action News morning anchor Alicia Smith will be leading the way for this great annual event!
“We are so thrilled to be hosting BuildUp3 with WXYZ. Over the last two years this event has brought hundreds of new volunteers to Habitat for Humanity Detroit. It’s a great way to introduce WXYZ viewers to our mission and to engage them in rebuilding Detroit’s neighborhoods,” Vincent Tilford, Executive Director of Habitat For Humanity Detroit said.
We’ll be building walls for a Habitat Home that will be built in the neighborhood.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and work will begin at 8 a.m. After a break for lunch, the BuildUp will finish at 3 p.m.
“BuildUp3 is really exciting this year because volunteers will have the opportunity to spend the entire morning in the Morningside community where Habitat Detroit has focused its work since 2006. Volunteers will assist in preparing for Habitat Detroit’s 100th house in the community. We’ve had amazing turnouts in the past and we are ready to swing some hammers with the WXYZ viewers once again! Building our 100th home in Morningside is a huge achievement and we are so glad that WXYZ is going to be a part of this special milestone.” said Tara Franey, Director of Development for Habitat For Humanity Detroit.
You have to be 16 years old to take part, and volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.
