Downtown business owners excited about plans for new arena

June 19 2013 | 1 comment

The Town Pump Tavern and Centaur are situated behind the Fox Theatre just a block off Woodward Avenue.

They’re already popular pre-game and after game gathering spots for Tiger fans and the action is going to pick up in the future.

“It’s a another huge piece of the puzzle,” said Sean Harrington, own owns both businesses. He’s excited to learn the plan calls for a pedestrian bridge over I-75 to connect the new events center project with Park Avenue.

Even as the city of Detroit teeters toward bankruptcy—the vote by the Downtown Development Authority in support of the 650 million dollar project is another indication that investors see opportunity here and that brighter days are ahead.

Of course. What about the average citizen or city worker? They are wondering if their benefits will be cut as the city helps pay for the new arena. This needs to be discussed. Somehow I don’t think the average city worker sees how he benefits from a ne home for the Wings. This needs to be discussed openly…. http://lstrn.us/14Oj2MA
