Sneak Peek at the new Whole Foods Midtown store
The kitchen is ready.
And in less than four weeks now, the Whole Foods store in Midtown will welcome customers.
Larry Austin is the Store Team Leader. He provided Detroit 2020 with a first look inside. He told us, “I think there is a high expectation on Whole Foods Market in Detroit and we want to make sure we deliver on our retail, we want to make sure we deliver on our service and we just want people to come in and feel welcome.”
The store will carry products from local companies, including Midtown neighbor, Avalon International Breads. Austin says, “They will supply our artisan breads, which is our in-house baked breads. We’ll also get a lot of grab-and-go items: cookies, brownies, things like that that people just come in and grab”
The store will buy from local growers as well, where possible. “The urban agriculture movement is big in Detroit and we just want to make sure we represent that and also hopefully reach out and be able to sell products in the store once the season kicks off.”
There are Detroit touches throughout the store, from reclaimed wood to table tops made from automobile hoods and more.
Austin told us, “You can’t open a store without some Motown so we thought it would be cool to throw some records on the registers just to continue to connect the dots and drive the feel of the city.”
Nearly 100 people will be working inside the store with a commitment to Detroiters. Soon the shelves will be stocked and there are big plans for the store opening on June 5th.
