Forbes Magazine calls Downtown Detroit “Emerging”
Forbes Magazine, the publication that called Detroit the nation’s “most miserable city”, now ranks the Motor City among the 15 American cities with emerging downtowns.
Detroit got the nod largely because the number of 25 to 34 year olds living downtown increased 59% between 2000 and 2010. Other factors listed in the article were the millions of dollars Quicken Loans owner Dan Gilbert has poured into the downtown area recently and the effort to lure 15,000 young professionals to move to downtown Detroit by 2015.
Other cities on the list include Grand Rapids, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Cleveland, Atlanta and L.A.
