Our Persons of the Week Unify, Inspire & Act!

October 19 2012 | no comments

Many people who are inspired to help others aren’t looking for a pat on the back, but our Detroit 2020 Persons of the Week certainly deserve it.

They truly embody Detroit 2020’s “Unify, Inspire, Act” motto.

Whether it’s helping tear down an abandoned house or building walls for a new home, Kenn Sheats and Dave LaFramboise have become fixtures at Detroit 2020 events.

“The first time we did [the BuildUp], I’m not a construction person, but I learned a lot,” said Kenn Sheats.  “Knowing that these walls were going into a home for a family that deserves it warms my heart.”

We first met the pair through WXYZ’s twitter family – the #backchannel and the #earlyrisers.

When we put the call out for Detroit 2020 volunteers, Sheats and LaFramboise were often among the first to sign up.

They still are.

After this summer’s Detroti 2020 Backchannel BustUp, they even posted a video on YouTube celebrating the volunteers’ hard work that day.

Their business Get in Gear Promotions out of Belleville designed the logo for our first BuildUp projects with Habitat for Humanity Detroit, and they donated the T-shirts for the event.

“Detroit 2020’s near and dear to my heart, and anything we can do to revitalize Detroit and make it great again, [we’re] all for it,” said Sheats.

Their business got a little boost after people heard about their donation.   Instead of socking away that extra profit, they used the money to provide Christmas gifts to a family of five last year.

Be the change you want to see.

Kenn Sheats and Dave LaFramboise are doing just that.

They are WXYZ’s Detroit 2020 Persons of the Week.
