Our Person of the Week Uses Music To Help Others
Our Detroit 2020 Person of the Week is an example of our commitment to make positive change in Detroit.
And this person is doing it with music.
Last weekend 50,000 people gathered at Cass Park for an event called “Mack & Third.” For the third year the show was put on by Detroit R & B star KEM to benefit the homeless population of Detroit.
The name “Mack & Third” comes from the corner where homeless people would gather. For a while, KEM himself was homeless and stayed at the Detroit Rescue Mission near Mack & Third. This event is KEM’s way of giving back to those who helped him.
Along with music, there were thousands of free meals handed out on Sunday. And people at the concert were urged to contribute canned goods. There was plenty for the kids to do.
Free medical and dental screenings were also provided and toiletry kits were given out.
So, for using his talent to unify, inspire and act, we select KEM as our Detroit 2020 Person of the Week.
