David Segura: A Man With A Vision

June 21 2012 | no comments

One of Detroit’s top entrepreneurs has deep roots in the city.

So when David Segura decided to start his own business, there was no doubt its home would be in Detroit.

And he’s committed to giving back…

David Segura is a man with a vision. He wants to get young people in the city of Detroit into the IT sector.

His company, Vision IT…has turned into a global enterprise. According to the company website, it was become one of the largest and most recognized minority-owned businesses in the United States, operating in 20 U.S. offices, and global operations in Puerto Rico, Mexico and India.

“We’ve been on an amazing ride,” said the Vision IT Founder & CEO. That  ride began 15 years ago, when Segura left Ford to start his own company.

“I said, ‘this is the time to do it—let’s transform the city of Detroit—make technology at the forefront,’” said Segura.

Today, Vision IT has about  100 employees in the Detroit area, nearly 1,000 overall company-wide—along with 3,500 contractors.

Clients include Pfizer, Hewlett Packard, and the Detroit Public Schools.

Segura’s family background goes back in Southwest Detroit nearly one hundred years.

He has a strong commitment to diversity, and the young people in the community.

From Vision IT’s internship program, to his support of T-LAB, which helps kids as young as kindergarten age learn about technology…

“I’m thankful that from the age of 13 I was given a computer and access and the ability to start programming at a young age,” said Segura.

He hopes these kids will, like him, take their education to the next level…and he wants to keep them here.
