Spreading The Love For Detroit On Twitter

March 23 2012 | 2 comments

Our Detroit 2020 Person of the Week is using social media to spread the love for Detroit. The things Terry Bean does on any given day makes him a perfect candidate for our Person of the Week. But it’s what he did specifically on March 13th that really got our attention.

His message on Twitter–#313dlove–trended worldwide on 3/13, which means tens of thousands of people across the planet were saying and reading good things about Detroit.

Bean calls himself a business development consultant…but he’s really kind of a social media Robin Hood. He works with for-profit businesses, finding them non-profits that could use their money.

“Most people want to help, they just don’t know how to help…so if you give them a path to do so, they run down it,” Bean told Detroit 2020.

But it’s not all about the money. You’ll often find Terry swinging a hammer with Motor City Blight Busters.  He helped our Stephen Clark organize last summer’s #backchannel “bustup.”

Bean created Motor City Connect and it is the largest business networking group in the state.
