March 06 2012 | no comments

The Telly Awards has named WXYZ-TV as a Silver winner in the 33rd Annual Telly Awards for the Detroit 2020 program, “A Conversation for Change,” that tackled issues of race relations.  The silver award is the highest honor given by the Telly Awards. The show received the award in the category of “social responsibility.”

“A Conversation for Change,” was part of WXYZ’s Detroit 2020 campaign, a decade-long, multi-platform initiative designed to make Metro Detroit a better place to live, work and raise families by the year 2020.  Its motto is UNIFY. INSPIRE, ACT.  The show focused on the biggest issues surrounding race in the Detroit area and what can be done to break down barriers.

The dialogue was lead by a group of representatives from diverse communities throughout Metro Detroit, and included viewer interaction through emails, Facebook and Twitter.

“WXYZ is proud to accept this honor from the Telly Awards for the outstanding work done by Detroit 2020,” said Ed Fernandez, WXYZ Vice-President and General Manager.  “The program “A Conversation for Change,” is a shining example of WXYZ’s commitment to be a catalyst for change in the community we serve.”

More than 11,000 entries were submitted from all 50 states in this year’s Telly Competition.

A prestigious judging panel of more than 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of the Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents.  The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize creative work in film and video production.  To find out more about the Telly Awards go to
